Odyssey (2021)
Olivia's 'Odyssey' collection comprises of seven stately pieces - a large triptych 'Terraqueous', inspired by the rosy red terrains and turquoise waters of Southern NSW's Sapphire Coast, and a series of six further striking panels, each representing different stages of the sunrise over Philip Bay at the artist's local beach, being Brighton Beach.
The minimalist aesthetic and refrained palette employed in the 'Odyssey' collection is reminiscent of the modern masters' approach to the treatment of colour and space. 'Auspice', 'Solace', 'Paragon' and 'Solstice' are described by the artist as 'atmospheric' or 'deconstructed' landscapes, in which distinct moments in time are compartmentalised by colour and spatial planes. The artist taps into the 'feeling' and experience of the natural landscape, rather than simply painting a representational depiction.
Similarly, whilst the rock formations and endless expanse of water are identifiable in 'Terraqueous', it is again the suggestion of form, and preference for colour and movement over exact references that successfully renders this triptych a triumph in the abstract landscape genre.
